"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. " -Helen Keller

We got our geek on last night...

my best friend and sister by choice, Jennifer, Vic and I ran away from the kids and went to see Star Trek. Hehehe, the running joke (started by me) is referring to Jennifer as *Vic's girlfriend. So, I told Vic he could tell the people at work he went to the movies with his wife and his girlfriend. A quick shout out and thank you to my dad for driving up and watching the kids so we could go out. My family ROCKS!

The movie was awesome and firmly turned on its head the odd vs. even truism of Star Trek movies. Even if you aren't a Trek fan, go see it! The story and action are great and the special effects are phenomenal. What is so great about this movie is that is takes all we love about Trek and gives it a twist. This is a "mirror universe reboot" of the Star Trek franchise which means we don't know whats coming next. Sadly, some Trek purists are too narrow minded to enjoy the film for the wonderful entertainment it is saying, **"Even though I haven't seen it," another writes, "I KNOW it is bad because it is not a replicate [sic] of the cheap sets of the 60s. I KNOW it is bad because it doesn't follow my strict understanding of canon." However, despite pissing off the purists, this movie breathes life into a cultural icon and has attracted legions of new fans.

The very best news is that there is already a sequel in the works...same cast, same producers, and Abrams might even direct again!

I couldn't get over how great the casting was. So believable that these guys were young versions of the crew. Loved it!!

Happy ICLW!

Everywhere I go, people are talking about this movie. Maybe we'll go see it this weekend with some free movie passes from our new theater.
I was a longtime fan of The Next Generation, so it'll be cool to see a prequel to it all.

Happy ICLW.

I have not seen it yet...but I am so looking forward to it. As I got older, I stopped liking the classic Star Trek....because of Shatner's slow talking made it hard for me to sit through.

Glad you got your geek on!! I'm so not a fan, but you've got me convinced..

I grew up being forced to watch the original series.. my mom was such a fan. She also had me sit through the Next Generation during my teen years.. as a result I have seen all of the original movies as well.

I just saw the new movie the other day and I have to say.. It was freaking AWESOME!!! The cast was amazing and so dead on. You never know when they try to make a pre-quel how it will do.. especially when these characters were so memorably played by their founding actors. The casting was ingenious. The plot was great.. and the action sequences were enough that when my hubby gets to see it.. he will be throughly entertained.

I enjoyed it so much.. I have a newer appreciation for the original and think I need to revisit some of the original seriers episodes and movies. So here's to getting your geek on!! I sure did!!! :)

Glad you had a good night out. I have to admit that I'm totally not a fan either. I've never watched Star Trek. Ever.

I've heard so many good things about this movie - I told my hubby there was no way I wanted to see it but I've changed my mind after all the good reviews.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! I'm so sorry you've had to deal with health issues, too, sweetie. It makes dealing with infertility even harder I think. Many thoughts and prayers with you. (((HUGS)))

Mr S and I are of the opinion that this "alternate reality" is a way of having more Trek movies without bumping into too much canon issues.

I haven't loved every Trek movie, but I loved this one.
