"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. " -Helen Keller

Not What I Intended

Tonight, I had intended to write up the EdenFantasys giveaway I have planned. Instead, I go to give my 5 yr old a crew cut. For those of you who are new around here, this is what my youngest, my post infertility baby, Gabe usually looks like...
He has the most fabulous hair...nice soft curls and lots of them.

Well, Gabe is my little wild child and gets into anything and everything. And, like most 5 yr olds, he thinks he can avoid getting in trouble for a bad deed by denying it happened. I'll tell him multiple times not to jump on the furniture and, the next time he jumps and I fuss at him, he tries to claim he never jumped. Well, this evening, I was sitting with my laptop and Gabe came strolling through the living room. I looked up and, without even thinking, I said "What the hell did you do to your hair?" Gabe, without missing a beat, said "I didn't do anything." You have to admire his chutzpah and his ability to deny, deny, deny, when this is what I saw...
See that patch on the right side of his head (left side of picture). Well, it was maybe 1/8 to 1/4 inch long. The only way I was going to really even it out was by taking a razor to his head and shaving him bald but I was NOT willing to do that. I did the next best thing and put the 1/2 inch blade guard on my clippers and clipped away. This is what Gabe's new do looks like...
Right now, I'm praying it grows out before school pictures.

Haha I guess he got to the clippers first!

Or did he?

It's not so bad. The good thing about hair is that it grows back. ;)

All those lovely curls... *sob* Poor mommy!

The August before 5th grade my bio-sister decided to give me a haircut while I slept. She took a chunk of my hair from the crown of my head and cut it right down to the scalp. My hair was shoulder-length and poker straight. By the time picture day rolled around, it had grown about an inch and it was standing straight up on the back of my head... Can you imagine how much I hated that pic?

What a cutie!

Your son's crew cut is what my son gets every time my husband takes him to the barber. Every time I tell him: don't get it cut too short! But it always is too short.

Oh boys!! they are so busy aren't they? This happened with William but sure enough, it grew back super fast. Gabe is still a cutie without his curls :)

LOL! Hopefully it'll grow back out!

My brother did the same thing when we were little... as a matter of fact, I remember doing that when I was in the 4th grade LOL.

Oh wow... that is definitely the age for kids cutting their own hair. I was the idiot mom who gave her child safety scissors to cut her Barbie's hair. Guess who's hair was next?!?! I feel your pain but those gorgeous curls will be back before you know it! I found you via ICLW.

Ha Ha Ha....Gabe is such a handful. But his haircut looks good, and hopeful his hair will grow back fast enough.

I gave myself bangs, because my mom would not let me have that hairstyle. It was horrible.

I think that cutting one's own hair is a rite of passage for most kids. Good thing those gorgeous curls will grow back. :)

LOL, I think all kids take scissors to their head. Gabe looks cute with the short hair cut.
