"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. " -Helen Keller

Its the end of an era...and other random shit...

and this picture tells the whole story...
Yes, we have finally reached that day...Marty is taller than me. He's only 1/4 of an inch taller but my 12 yr old is taller than me...eeek. I knew the day would come I just didn't think it would happen before he was a teenager.

...

Gabe is driving me crazy with potty training. He will only deign to try yo use the potty at his convenience and rarely does anything in it. It is progress but its not nearly as much progress as I'd hoped for.

...

And, on the topic of diapers, a few days ago, Gabe came to me with Joey's walking, talking ninja and told me the ninja was stinky and that he had to change the ninja's diaper. He was oh so serious and it was so hard not to laugh in his face.

...

Gabe was showing his fearless side when we were at my parents' house this weekend. They have an extremely high front porch (about 8 or 9 steps going up to it) and he was playing kamikaze boy off of the porch...again and again and again. He was taking flying leaps off the porch and over the bushes around it over and over again. I think God really knew what he was doing when he had Gabe be the third child. If he had been my first, there might not have been anymore because he would have scared me off from more kids...ROFL.

...

How do I convince Joey he is perfect just the way he is? Evidently, a few kids commented about his weight and he is holding onto the hurt. Joey has a tendency to put on a bit of weight and then grow tall and he was doing that at the end of the school year. It kind of scares me when I hear him worrying about why people think he is fat and saying things like, "Maybe it's because of my thighs." I reassured him that he was by no means fat and kids said thing like that because kids can be mean. I also pointed out that he is very active and can exercise for long periods of time. I also pointed out that he is built just like Vic was at that age and, by high school, Vic was tall and slim. Joey is never going to be a small boy because he is built with very broad shoulders and a broad torso but, DAMN IT, I don't want my 8 yr old to have a complex about his weight.

...

Thanks to the damn bunny and his friends, all of my green beans that were starting (except for two) got eaten. Grrrr! I t looks like I will get corn and squash but I think the damned bunnies are going to eat everything else. I guess this means I need a fence next year.

...

My driving schedule for the week...Sunday about 300 miles...Wednesday 60 miles...Thursday 300 miles...Friday 100 miles...and, of course, there will be all the normal around town driving.

That's ok my almost 12 yr old daughter is bustier than me. I'd take taller any day.

Bribe him with a box of mixed candy. for every #1 or #2 he does in the potty he picks a piece. Or trinket toys instead of candy.

Ninja poop is the BEST! It has secret ninja healing properties.

Kill the wabbit... kill the wabbit!

Please be safe with all that driving. Defense!

Hugs to you and the health 8 year old.
Mr. G. will come around when he's ready....Mom may lose it before that happens but it will happen.
Have a safe driving week.

That is breaking my heart. I can almost get into Ben's shoes and it breaks me up.

I think I was around 12 or 13 when I reached the point that I was taller than my mom. She also told me that if I wore a bigger bra than her she was going to be mad and I'm pretty sure I passed that point at 15 or 16. Poor mom.
I have no answers on what to tell Joey. It sucks though that kids are so mean to one another. I'm sorry he's having to deal with it.
Good luck with the potty training and driving.

Sorry about your eaten veggies.

Wow! Your son is taller than you? Eek...where does the time go? They grow up when we're not looking.

I'm with "Geek" on the potty training. I bribed Em with "viewmaster" slides for poops-on-the-potty and she was trained in a week.

Best of luck!

Wow about Marty! Very different situation, but my mom (now in her mid-sixties) is no longer as tall as she used to be, and I am finally taller than her. :) It's the thing I like to tease her about, as I was always the "short one" in the family (at 5'9"!), but now either we're the same height, or I'm a little taller. Of course, I'm a long way from her bra size, but...

So sorry about Joey. I'd like to do something to those other kids that social services probably wouldn't approve of.

Nae just turned 12 and is ALMOST taller then me. At her last check up she had 2 inches to go until she was TALLER THEN ME!!!!
Zilla sounds JUST like Gabe. I always say "if Zilla was my first, I don't think I would have EVER tried for another!" That kid IS craaaazy! If we ever meet, lets keep them FAR away from each other and Kym's daughter too ;o)
*HUGS*

the issue with joey, well, just try to explain how it is and th thruth that people are lame and will make fun of anything not in their norm will just happen. It's important for him to know it will happen and how he needs ro react to it. Yes, it'll hurt but to keep in mind, he will grow it all out. I think you do want it to be honest, but instead of "don't listen to them, they're idiots" EXPLAIN why they are saying it. And explain how they will end up being wrong so instead of a 'just ignore them" like that has ever worked, knowing what really WILL happen and why he'll turn it around will be for the best.

Oh, Kristin. LOL - I remember when my youngest bro finally grew taller than my Mom (she's 4'10"). I think he was around 10 or 12. She was in denial that he was taller than her, lol.

Too funny about Gabe and changing the Ninja's diaper. I don't know if I could've kept a straight face. Won't you be thrilled when he says "Ninja has to use the potty"?

I empathize about the green beans. Mine have all been eaten except for two also. I'm thinking about replanting. I lost 2 of the 3 tomato plants, too. Darn ant colonies!
