"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. " -Helen Keller

What would you do if...

Mrs.Gamgee posed the question earlier today "What would you do if you won the lottery?" and I thought it would be fun to play along. Since this is totally fantasyland here, I decided I'd pretend I had won the equal to the largest lottery jackpot in the US with a lump sum pay out of $233.1 million (probably about $115 million after taxes).
  • The first thing I'd do (before my winnings are even announced) is find a top notch financial adviser with plans of investing about $60 million.
  • I would donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Parenthood For Me, Muscular Dystrophy Association, The Liz Logelin Foundation, a good diabetes research group, and Planned Parenthood.
  • My first personal indulgence would be to donate enough money to Duke University to become an Iron Duke and be able to buy season tickets to Duke Basketball games.
  • I'd take my family on an around the world cruise while someone came in, leveled the house we live in and the one next to us, and then built us our dream house (including an office and craft room for me) on this location because I refuse to move ever again.
  • I'd make sure my parents were completely set with the house of their dreams and money to travel.
  • Since we've already upgraded our two desktop computers, I'd buy myself a kick ass laptop, some type of tablet computer, and a nicer smart phone.
  • Buy two brand new, completely reliable family vehicles.
  • I would have to buy a '64 1/2 Mustang rag top.
So, what would you do if you won the lottery?

This is the source of many fantasies for me. The dream house for sure although I'm not a hundred percent positive of the location of said house. I'd also quit my job. I love being a nurse but not that much. I'd find some sort of volunteer work to do. I'd buy a Mini Cooper and a new Subaru Forester. Travel. A lot. Strangely I don't know if doing a donor egg cycle would show up in there. Some days yes, some no.
p and i talk about this when we buy tickets, which only happens once a month or every other. we usually end up in a fight, because his version is: BUILD A CASTLE, OPEN A GUITAR FACTORY, GIVE MILLIONS TO MY BROTHERS, OPEN CAR DEALERSHIPS, BUY EVERY CAR EVER, BLAH BLAH BLAH. and my version is much closer to yours, with hiring a financial advisor or two being the first on the list. P gets all "why would we need a financial advisor?" ha.

if i won, i would definitely quit my job and find something i love doing. i would buy a house closer to our family in the country, with lots of land and woods. i would pay off our debt and the debt of our immediate family and sent up college trust funds for my nieces and nephews and goddaughter. then, i would probably focus on traveling, working on my crafts, spending time with baby girl, and possibly going back to school.
I'm going with the boring infertile answer of: have a baby. With practically unlimited resources (115 million will do a LOT), I would probably be able to adopt a few, as well as continue throwing money at a chance for a bio-baby.

I'm sure we'd buy a house, too, and a new truck for the hubs. But honestly? I have everything I really want....except for that one thing that continues to elude me. God, I'm a broken record, aren't I?
Ooooo... I hadn't thought about the location of my little dream house. I think I would want it to be in K-town. I do so miss my mountains.
Winning the lottery would be awesome... I would do IVF until I had my four babies. Then I would buy a minivan, a camera, and put away the rest :). Ok, and maybe I would buy my dream house... But, I probably would save the rest. At this point all I really want are the babies and the minivan. What a neat question!

I'd do as much IVF as I needed and buy or build a house just across the neighborhood, right on the water, with my own dock. And I'd buy me a boat and DH a Cessna and his flying lessons.

I'd donate to my church and to APO and to the Brain Tumor Society and National MS Society and to diabetes research and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. And save/invest a bunch. And make sure my mom is taken care of. My dad and stepmom are fine, but my mom needs it.
Hello from ICLW! If I won the lottery I would pay off my patent's home, my home, my sister's college and my student loans. They I'd travel the world. After I got tired of that I'd start my own business someplace warm.
