The Bionic Grandma Update

Thanks to everyone who offered up their thoughts and prayers for my mom yesterday. My mom's surgery went smoothly although it took a full hour longer than it was suppose to...the damage was that bad. My mom's surgeon said she had sheared the ball off the bone. The ball had perforated her bicep and was resting right up against the axial nerve which explains the extreme amount of pain she was in. Her surgeon couldn't believe with that amount of damage and pain that my mom had stopped taking the vicodin they gave her and had only been taking ibuprofen for the pain. He also said that he doesn't think there is any nerve damage and he thinks she will regain most of the function. I personally think she is strong enough and stubborn enough to regain full use (just to prove him wrong). My mom has a prescription for 6 weeks in a sling to give her bionic shoulder time to fully integrate with her body and then she will need heavy duty physical therapy (18 months) to regain strength and range of motion. Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers. I'd appreciate continued prayers for her recover

Glad to hear she is on the road to recovery...although sounds like a tough journey, it sounds like she more than up to the task.
Lots of good thoughts and love going out to your mom.
Your mom is a tough cookie! Will keep her in my prayers..
(By the way my bro in law currently having surgery on his lip - they found cancer and cut it out and now having plastic surgery) so he needs prayer too!
Glad she is on the mend. Hope that she is able to prove the Dr. wrong be regaining full use.
Whew! I'm glad this is behind her and she can now go about exceeding everyone's expectations.

A very gentle hug for your mom, and a huge one for you, my friend.
Maybe she'll get my experience, and have a nice-looking young man as her physical therapist. ;)

Glad to hear the surgery went well. You must be very relieved. Best wishes for quick (and full) healing!
Glad the surgery went well, hoping for an excellent recovery!

Yikes, doesn't sound like fun at all. Hope the healing goes well for her.
Glad she came through ok! Yeah, Shoulder surgery is brutal, and usually takes longer than they think it will. But if she's that determined/stubborn, she'll do fine, and probably have better mobility than the doctor when it's all over with!
