"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. " -Helen Keller

Stitching Post Saturday 11/7 (on Sunday)

I've been doing all kinds of stitching lately. I finished one small cross stitch project...
I've started another small cross stitch project...
I made the cutest little crocheted dragon...
and, I've started a hat for one of my boys...
I'm also trying to finish up that star afghan I showed y'all ages ago. All in all, I've been pretty productive. The state of my house reflects my productive crafty time.

Stitching Post Saturday 10/10 & Blogoversary Giveaway Preview

I'm so happy. In addition to being productive around the house, I've been really productive with my stitchy crafts. I have one cross stitch piece I'm making for a friend but I haven't taken a picture yet.

I finished 4 hats for Lady Nunn over at Preemie Presents (please click on the button to the left and find out all about Preemie Presents. I'm hoping to knock out at least 4 more before I mail them.
I started making my second Pay It Forward gift. It doesn't look like much yet but it's going to be super cute.
And, finally, I finished the hat that is going to be the prize in my blogoversary giveaway. The giveaway will start tomorrow, my 5th blogoversary and I will take entries all week.

Yes folks, it's an adult sized pumpkin hat. For those of you with a normal sized head, it will be a fairly loose fit and won't completely squish your hair. For those of you with abnormally large cabezas like me, it will still fit. It will just be a snug fit.

So, to wrap it up, hats, half done cuteness, and come back tomorrow to help me celebrate my blogoversary and enter the giveaway.

Stitching Post Saturday 9/26 & other Random Shit

Hey y'all. Happy Saturday. Sorry there isn't much coherence to my post today but I've got family coming over and I've got to get some cleaning done.

I finished the crocheted pig I showed you last week. I am thrilled with how he turned out and the little boy he was made for love it too.

Gabe desperately needed new shoes so I took him out to get some yesterday. We found some shoes for Gabe and then he spotted the Halloween socks. Gabe begged and pleaded and ended up with a set of ghost sock. It's pretty funny because they are adult socks which means the heel hits the top of his ankle and they can be pulled up past his knees but he LOVES them. I also found a pair of sneakers that I had to have. How can you possibly pass up purple shoes (and, yes, those socks are a pair and they don't match...they are sold that way)?

****************************************
Last weekend, I helped Joey build a boat for the Raingutter Regatta. The cool thing is this is the only one of the races (Pinewood Derby, Space Derby, and Raingutter Regatta) that you do not have to build your vehicle from the scout kit. The boats are judge for speed, beauty and how unique they are. If you place in the top three in any of the categories, you get a ribbon to wear on your uniform. Joey and his ship, the *SS Candy, won 3 rd place for most unique. We constructed the ship from a 20 oz soda bottle and the sail is from the saide of a 3 liter bottle of soda. The ship and sail were decorated with Reese's Peanut Butter Cup wrappers and lollipop wrappers.

Any advice on how to find a good and trustworthy Jeweler? I can't wear my engagement ring right now because one of the prongs holding the diamond in is bent. I miss my bling.

*I voted for the Good Ship Lollipop but my suggestion got shot down.

Stitching Post Saturday 9/19 + TUSAL

This week, I have an absolutely adorable project to share with y'all and I am finally remembering to do a Totally Useless Stitchalong (TUSAL) update. The whole purpose of the TUSAL is to collect all the orts (small pieces of floss, thread, yarn, or other fibers) that you trim off your stitching projects over the year. You can collect them in the see through container of your choice and, by the end of the year, you have a colorful and possibly artistic representation of your year's activity. I still think that when we get closer to the end of the year, I will buy some clear glass ornaments to put the orts in. My container is getting quite full...
All those lovely yellow and black pieces of yarn at the top are from my latest crochet project. I've been modifying a pattern I found online to create a pig. Except for legs, he is done. I crocheted around wire so the tail could be curly.

Stitching Post Saturday 8/29

I've got two wonderful projects to show y'all this week. First of all, I designed and stitched a biscornu which is basically an eight sided pincushion. In this case, I reduced the side and made it into a Christmas ornament. When I joined the two sides together, I added red and green Mill Hill seed beads to every other stitch.

And, now, a warning for one person...

I am so excited because I put the very last stitches into the memory quilt and I HAVE to show it to you. I can't stand to not show it off. As with the pictures above, click on this to see a close up.
I am very happy with how it turned out. I hope she likes it too.

Stitching Post Saturday 7/18

I've been working on a very special quilt this week. I'm making a memory/baby quilt for a very special lady and I wanted to show you a little of it.

I know you can't really tell much from the pictures but I really want the design to be a surprise for this lovely lady. Also, it will be her story to tell once she gets the quilt.

Stitching Post Saturday 7/11

Here are the two things that let me retain my sanity this week. Click on pics for close ups. I finished the tote bag Murgdan won ages ago in my giveaway.

And, I made a huge amount of progress on the star afghan. It's almost time to add the second set of points. I went from this...

to this...

Stitching Post Saturday 6/20

I am almost 100% done with the modified Dragon of Air for Dee's All About Me Round Robin. Not only did I change teh colors, but I changed some of the Xs to specialty stitches. I think it kind of looks like scales on the dragon's chest and I love the satin stitching on the wing. I ran out of one of the colors and got a replacement skein last night so it will be 100% done tonight. Wooohooooo!
And, I got back my All About Me RR. I absolutely LOVE everything that has been done so far but there is still a lot of area to fill in. Any volunteers?

Stitching Post Saturday

Yay, yay, yay...it's small but it's a finish. I finally finished the second part of my contribution to MiPa's All About Me RR. I stitched the Romanian flag...

to go along with the racehorse I already finished.
Here is a pic of her entire project...

Hopefully, I'll have a lot more to share next week.

Stitching Post Saturday

Once again, I don't have nearly as much done as I wanted to get done. There always seems to be something else screaming to get taken care of. If you click on the pics below, you can see larger versions of most of them.

I have finished the racehorse I was stitching...

and I got started on the Romanian flag...

I pieced the one side of a tote bag and got the other side cut out and pinned...

The completed side is a design called a friendship star. The other side will be the same size but the pins prevent me from spreading it out.

Stitching Post Saturday

Here's what I've finished this week. I stitched the E on this Welcome Round Robin...

I also crocheted this scarf as a present for someone. I hope she likes it when she gets it. You can click on this one and see a bigger picture.

All the other stitching done this week has been mending and wouldn't be any fun to look at.

Stitching Post Saturday

Its been a while since I posted any of my cross stitching. While I haven't finished any major projects, I have finished a lot of small things. I am participating in a Name/Welcome RR and I've stitched letters on a few of those...

I stitched the S and the musical notes on this one.

I stitched the N on this one.

I have also been crocheting preemie sized baby hats for The Preemie Present project run by Lady Nunn of The Flying Nunns. I have finished 10 for her to use in next years present bags...3 extra large, 3 large, 1 medium, 1 small, and 2 extra small (they fit the micro preemies). To give you an idea as to the size, I took a picture of my fist next to an apple and an orange. Then I took a picture with an xs hat on the apple and a hat on the orange. If you click on these pictures you can see a larger version of them.
