"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. " -Helen Keller

New Year's Lunacy

The second full moon of a month is known as a blue moon. According to Yahoo News, "the New Year's Eve blue moon will be visible in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and Africa. For partygoers in Australia and Asia, the full moon does not show up until New Year's Day, making January a blue moon month for them." Yahoo News also says "the Eastern Hemisphere can celebrate with a partial lunar eclipse on New Year's Eve when part of the moon enters the Earth's shadow. The eclipse will not be visible in the Americas."

So, enjoy the celebration tonight and, if the skies are clear where you are, head outside for a minute and take a look at the blue moon that ushers out 2009.

I saw that full moon on my way home from work on Thursday. All I could think was "full moon on New Years Eve. So glad I'm not working night shift."
