And Then There Were Nine

My little house is filled to the brim tonight. My beautiful friend Rys of Confessions of a Clutter Queen and her three kids are here for an indefinite amount of time. The huge amount of rain dumped on the northeast by Tropical Storm Lee flooded the entire first floor of their house. The basement filled and the water kept rising. It didn't stop until there was about 6 inches of standing water covering their first floor. Sadly, that wasn't the worst of the damage. Their well pump was toasted which means their well is fouled. The flood waters also have cracked and shifted and totally fucked up their foundation. Odds are very good that FEMA will declare the house completely uninhabitable.

So, since the house is definitely not safe for kids, Rys and her kids are here. We're going to get the kids enrolled in school tomorrow and then Rys and I will tackle the house. If we can beat it into submission, we can mange this number of people here. Rys's husband is still at home managing things until FEMA decides what's what.

It should be one hell of a ride. It's a good thing I love my sister-by-choice.
