And then I cried UNCLE! + BlogHer question

My garden beat me. I hate to say it because my plants started out so beautifully.
I worked hard and prepared the garden bed.
All my gorgeous pea plants dies shortly after being put in the ground. That should have been my first clue something was up. And, then this little friend and his family started making regular trips to my garden.
Even though my green bean plants didn't seem to grow much once they were in the ground, they were producing beans buy Mr. Bunny and his compatriots ate all but 2 of them.
My corn is only about waist high but already has tassels on it. It should be a lot taller. And, all that grass I removed, evidently, I didn't get all the roots so it came back with a vengeance. And, after the torrential downpour we had at the end of last week, the grass held in so much moisture that the plant that produced my one squash started to rot.
I am pretty sure the pH in the soil is screwed badly and that is why the peas and the tomatoes died and the corn is so stunted. I'm holding out hope for the corn but I decided the rest is a lost cause. I mowed it down and I'm going to start prepping it for next year. The first aim is going to be killing off the grass, roots and all. Hopefully, next year, my beautiful plants will have a gorgeous , well prepared plot of dirt to grow and thrive in.

And no bunnies.
I'm with you. My plants were all dying off and I think it was too much sun so I moved them to an area where they were getting more shade but then left town for a week and I don't know if they got any water. Now they are toast.

How are you getting rid of the grass? If you use chemicals, they can also kill off veggies for some month later.
Take of the grass and cover with a black sheet of weed suppreser...that should kill them off for next year, but you will always have weeds. Weed often and it works out less work than leaving them for ages.

It doesnt sound like Ph to me, but you can get pH kits from the garden centre....anywhere near 7 is fine for most plants.
If you need any help, please feel free to e-mail me lol

Girl, my veggies had a rough season. Our squash did the same thing as yours and our cukes had no pigment. The only thing that did well were the things we potted. My grape tomatoes did nicely and I will do more of those next year. Dwayne pulled up everything from our garden so we will try our luck in a fall/winter garden. All that damn money, time and water went down the toilet! This was our first time so I will give myself a break!

I don't think my herb garden is going to make it either. They were doing great while they were inside, but as soon as I moved them out to the balcony things got a little dicey.

Our garden is not as good this year as it has been in past years. This seems to be true of all gardeners I know. Must be the year.

I am so curious about the BlogHer question. It's in NYC next year, which is insanely expensive (hotels, food, etc.).

I can only imagine your frustration over your garden...
I hope you can find the problem and prepare the lot for beautiful veggies next year.

I'm sorry about your garden. Our has done fairly well this year though I'm not sure we'll get squash or pumpkin in time.
Your robber sure is cute though.:)

I wish I could offer some gardening advice, but I'm not so good with plants. Ok, really bad, actually.

Sigh. I feel your pain. I don't know if it's squirrels or skunks (I've never seen a bunny in our yard), but something (and it's not us) eats the vast majority of the stuff that grows in our garden.

Don't feel bad... my garden looks pretty pathetic, too!
